At Genworth
Financial, we are helping people achieve financial
security throughout key stages of their lives.
Our primary focus at Genworth is on developing
and promoting products to meet consumers' needs
around:
Helping
Americans pay for long term care insurance products
is not the only solution to the nation's long
term care dilemma - but, it is certainly an important
part of the solution. A comprehensive long term
care strategy should address four inter-related
components: Education & Awareness, Long Term
Care Financing, Healthy Aging and Caregiving.
This section
makes available various white papers and research
reports that Genworth Financial has commissioned
or sponsored to address these important topics.
National Long Term Care
Symposium
In its
second year in 2007, Genworth's National Long
Term Care Symposium brings together leaders
from the healthcare industry, senior organizations,
government and academia to discuss the future
of long term care in America with an audience
of Capitol Hill staff members and policymakers.
This year, Congressmen Earl Pomeroy (D-ND) and
Tom Allen (D-ME), co-chairs of the Congressional
Long Term Care Caucus, offered opening remarks
and perspectives from their work to advance
long term care policy with the goal of improving
the access and affordability of long term care.
Our objective from this exchange of ideas is
to profile the topic of long term care as part
of the national health care discussion within
the 2008 Presidential campaign.

Congressional Resolution
Promotes Long Term Care Awareness Week
To call
attention to the growing number of Americans
who are unprepared for future long term care
needs, 10 leading long term care insurance
providers – including Genworth Financial1 –
together with the American Association for Long
Term Care Insurance conducted an industry-wide
awareness campaign during this year's Long Term
Care Awareness Week (November 4 – 10).
Long Term
Care Awareness Week garnered recognition at
the highest levels of government when the House
of Representatives passed a Congressional
Resolution supporting the importance of
long term care planning and the national awareness
campaign.

Long Term Care National
Opinion Poll
In coordination
with the 2007 National Long Term Care Symposium,
Genworth Financial commissioned a national public
opinion poll about long term care and the 2008
presidential elections. The survey found that
nearly eight in 10 voters want the candidates
running for President to talk about long term
care in their proposals for national healthcare
reform. A third of voters said that positions
on long term care will be a very important factor
to them when deciding who to vote for in 2008.

Long Term Care &
Women
Women
are disproportionately affected by long term
care, greatly outnumbering men as care providers
and care recipients. These dual roles have serious
implications for women's physical and mental
health, careers and finances. In this study,
Genworth Financial examines the toll long term
care takes on women; particularly the staggering
cost to families, personal health and the nation
as a whole.
2007 Genworth Financial
Cost of Care Survey
The need
for long term care is an issue that many Americans
may face for themselves, a family member or
a friend. There is a heightened level of debate
in Washington, DC about the nation's long term
care strategy and the dramatic funding gap that
exists with today's government healthcare programs.
Because of the critical nature of this topic,
Genworth Financial conducted its benchmark Cost
of Care study to help raise awareness and bring
more attention to this critical issue. For the

Alzheimer's Disease in
America: A Retrospective
As the
leading protector of families with long term
care needs, Genworth has developed a unique
historical perspective on the financial impact
associated with diseases requiring such care.
This report points to trend lines that should
be cause for concern for individuals and families
planning for their future, as well as for governments
at every level charged with caring for populations
that will be unable to pay for the care they
will need. For the full report, download PDF
